On a cold, windy and rainy final day, the 2016 PING CCAA Golf National Championship is in the books. Battling the weather and being down a team member due to injury, the Red Deer College Golf team put forth a gritty effort to finish the three day championship. Both the RDC Women's and Men's Golf teams improved their placements on a challenging day.

The RDC Women's Golf team moved up one spot today to 9th place. The Georgian College Grizzlies Women's team took top spot. Individually Shaye Leidenius finished the three day competition tied for 7th place, shooting a final round of 81. Josiah Dixon of the Niagara College Knights finished the three day event in 1st place, shooting a final round of 75 which Skoreyko eclipsed by 1 stroke.

RDC Golf Coach in P.E.I., Jeff Willmer, was proud of the team's efforts.

"The team played well considering the cold, windy and rainy weather," said Willmer. "RDC had great representation this week."

Willmer and the Red Deer College golfers enjoyed their time in P.E.I.

"P.E.I put on a great championship and they should be proud," said Willmer. "Overall the golf experience and the people were fantastic."

It was a challenging three days facing injuries, tough weather and competing against some of the top golfers from across Canada. The RDC Golf team showed a lot of heart and determination.

The golf season is complete for another year. Every RDC golfer is eligible to return and using their experience from the 2016 PING CCAA Golf National Championship will benefit the entire team next year in ACAC competition and beyond.
