The Red Deer College Golf team completed their second round today at the 2016 PING CCAA Golf National Championship in Stratford, Prince Edward Island. It was a cooler day, reaching about 10 degrees Celsius. The wind was once again a factor but not as strong as yesterday.

Jeff Willmer, RDC Golf Coach in P.E.I., noted a change in course conditions on day two.

"Conditions were better today but the temperature was a lot cooler," said Willmer. "The wind really dried the course out from yesterday."

One of the challenges was putting throughout the round.

"With the drying of the course the greens were extremely tough today," said Willmer. "The team had to be really creative in order to make some putts."

The RDC Women's Golf team remains in 10th place after the second day at Fox Meadow Golf & Country Club. The Georgian College Grizzlies lead the women's teams. Individually Shaye Leidenius sits in 8th place after two days. Thursday Leidenius shot an 80 for a two day total of 158, which is only 7 strokes behind the leader Becky Martin of Medicine Hat College. Similar to yesterday Leidenius improved as the round went on. She shot a 43 on the first 9 holes, which included 4 pars. On the last 9 holes Leidenius added 4 more pars with 2 birdies for a remarkable 37.

The RDC Men's Golf team sits in 14th place after two days. The Niagara College Knights lead the men's teams. Cole Morrison shot a 74 in his second round for a total of 148. This places him in a tie for 21st as an individual and 12 total strokes behind the men's leader Josiah Dixon of Niagara College. Morrison opened his round shooting a 38 on the first 9 holes and also improved on the last 9, consistently shooting par on every hole for a 36.

Unfortunately Colton Craner had to withdraw from competition today due to an injury.

"Colton had a tough couple of days dealing with an injury," said Willmer. "We made the decision to pull him off the golf course so he can seek the attention he needs. While it was a difficult decision, it was one that had to be made."

With Craner withdrawing it means that all of the remaining four RDC male golfers will count their scores on the final day.  The Red Deer College golfers are looking forward to the final day and competing hard to finish the three day championship.

The final day of competition continues Friday in potentially difficult weather conditions. It is expected that the wind will be the strongest of the three days mixed in with some rain.
