RDC male golfers sit 2nd, females in 3rd after day one

After day one at the ACAC Golf Championship in Lac La Biche the Red Deer College men sit in 2nd place as an ACAC team while the women are in 3rd. The RDC women trail Grant MacEwan University by only 7 strokes heading into the final day on Sunday.

Individually Shaye Leidenius sits tied for 3rd. Leidenius shot an 89, finishing the opening round with two pars and 9 strokes behind Becky Martin of Medicine Hat College. Hayley Phillips sits tied for 12th after the first day.

Lacombe native Ryan Skoreyko is in 4th place after shooting an opening round of 79, picking up three birdies in the process. Skoreyko is 8 strokes behind Barrett Belland of Grant MacEwan University. Cody Clipperton shot an opening round of 83 which ties him for 10th. Shooting an 84 on Saturday put Cole Morrison in a tie for 12th. Colton Craner sits 24th, Logan Crawford is tied for 26th and Mitchell McKinnon is tied for 32nd.

The Lac La Biche Golf & Country Club is a difficult course to play when conditions are good but today's weather added another challenging element.

"The cold, wet and rainy conditions made an already difficult golf course play extremely difficult," said Head Coach Scott Bergdahl. "The weather got the best of most golfers today."

Day two of the ACAC Golf Championship continues Sunday at the Lac La Biche Golf & Country Club where the Red Deer College Golf team aims to move up the leaderboard.
