RDC Cross Country wins team trophy, Queens second and Kings third at Grand Prix #5

Camrose, AB – Despite missing a handful of key student-athletes, the RDC Cross Country Running team continued to perform extremely well at Running Room Grand Prix #5.

The Kings and Queens won the team trophy, with the best combined men's and women's results among the participating Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) teams.

Even without Jill Stewart and Caitlin Debree, the RDC Queens took second spot as a group, only seven team points behind the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The U of A Augustana Vikings placed third on their home course.

Over 6 km, Bachelor of Education Elementary student Shayla Sklaruk (24:52) paced the Queens, finishing second among ACAC women. Mackenzie Spinks (26:36) was ninth and Shayna Brower (26:42) was only six seconds behind in tenth spot. Red Deer's Shaelyn Moltzahn (26:53) placed 11th. Jenna Sahulka (28:24) and Lauren Pasiuk (28:34) were 18th and 19th.

Lethbridge College's Sophia Nowicki (24:21) took top spot. Grande Prairie Regional College's Anna van der Giessen (25:00) was eight seconds behind Sklaruk, placing third.

While the RDC Kings and U of A Augustana Vikings were tied for second with 46 team points, the Kings lost the tie breaker and were shuffled down to third. The SAIT Trojans picked up first with 30 points.

Lacombe's Daniel Szucs (28:30) led the Kings over 8 km, placing fourth among ACAC men. Devin Saunders (28:41) was only 11 seconds behind his teammate and crossed the finish line in sixth. Nathan Swartz (30:08) was 12th and Carson Schiller (31:55) wrapped up 24th. The Kings were without talented first-year Will Cebuliak.

Concordia's Leonard Chesoo (25:13) had another strong race, capturing first among ACAC men. Augustana's Michio Green (27:30) was next and SAIT's Jacques Saayman (27:46) rounded out third spot.

SAIT will host the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships on Saturday, October 26.
