RDC Cross-Country women runners finish first, men fourth

Grand Prix #5 wrapped up in Camrose and the Red Deer College Cross-Country Running teams produced more great results. The RDC Women's Cross-Country Running team finished 1st overall while the men finished 4th out of the competing ACAC schools.

The University of Alberta Augustana hosted the event in winter-like conditions.

Jordanna Cota continues to perform well, finishing 2nd out of the ACAC women runners with a time of 22:06 on the 5 km course. Amy Severtson finished in 22:40 placing her in 4th, Jill Stewart crossed the finish line 5th and Janaya Garbe came in 10th place.

Nolan Dyck led the way for the Red Deer College male runners, finishing the 8 km course in 32:41. This placed him 14th out of the ACAC male runners. Corey DeRaadt had a good race, finishing in 17th. It was a deep field of male runners, with 109 ACAC and open runners.

Head Coach Kari Elliott was happy with the effort and recognized that it was a difficult day for any student-athlete to run a personal best time.

"It was very slippery and snowy today on the course," said Elliott. "Everyone ran slower because of the weather and slick conditions, but they did very well."

Elliott was impressed with the persistence of Innisfail native Amy Severtson, who was recently feeling under the weather.

"Amy is just coming back from being sick,"said Elliott. "But she had a great race today."

The RDC Cross-Country Running team next competes Oct. 29 at the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championship hosted by Grande Prairie Regional College. The Red Deer College runners are familiar with that course, having competed there in Grand Prix #4 Oct. 1.
