RDC Queens tame Lions in five sets

Calgary, AB - After dropping a three set decision to the Ambrose University Lions on Friday, the Red Deer College Queens had a tremendous bounce back performance and downed the Lions in five sets (20-25, 25-23, 25-14, 23-25 and 15-12). 

Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler was happy with the persistence and compete level in the road win. "We addressed the issue of playing right through to 25 points and doing their jobs to the best of their ability," he says. "We talked about the importance of putting the effort into every rally because that's what good teams do."

Kaylee Domoney was chosen as the Queens Player-of-the-Game. Willow Lewington picked up the award for the Lions with 14 kills, 4 stuff blocks, 1 dig and 1 service ace.

Several performances impressed the coach. "Kaylee Domoney was solid with 27 digs," says Wandler. "Katrina Dawe had 17 kills and Natalie Bloemen set a great match while playing well defensively."

Along with Dawe's 17 kills, the outside hitter from Grande Prairie added 12 digs, 2 assists, 1 service ace and 1 stuff block. Natalie Bloemen had 36 assists, 11 digs, 6 kills and 2 service aces. Jade Van Dyke added 11 kills from the left. As a team, the Queens had 8 service aces. 

The RDC Queens (6-6) will be back in action on Friday, January 4 when they face the Ambrose University Lions (7-3) at 6:00 p.m. in Calgary.
