Holmes leads Queens offensively in close four set battle against Trojans

Calgary, AB - After trailing the SAIT Trojans by a pair of sets, the RDC Queens won a marathon third set but eventually dropped a hard fought match on the road (20 - 25, 17 - 25, 34 - 32 and 21 - 25).

RDC's Natalie Bloemen contributed 31 assists, 5 kills and 1 dig. Katrina Dawe and Emma Holmes were a few of Bloemen's favourite targets, but the first-year setter effectively distributed the ball to a variety of Queens. Holmes, a first-year Bachelor of Kinesiology student from Red Deer, led the Queens offensively with 10 kills and Dawe had 8.

Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler believed a sluggish beginning effected several aspects of his team's game, but he liked the development as the match went on. "It was a slow start with our passing which made it hard on ourselves to play defence and transition the ball," he says. "I thought that we turned it around in the third set after we gave up a lead. We entered the fouth set down 0 - 5 and ended up losing by five points."

There were several memorable efforts in the contest. "Our first-year middles, Alexandria Greenshields and Sydney Rix played well again tonight along with Kaylee Domoney who passed and defended the lights out," says Wandler.

Greenshields had 8 kills, 1 service ace, 2 digs and 1 block assist. Rix accumulated 6 kills, 1 service ace, 1 dig and 4 block assists. Domoney picked up 22 digs and 8 assists in the road match, and was selected as the Queens Player-of-the-Game.
