Red Deer, AB - It was a different day and a different result. After a four set loss on Friday, the RDC Queens responded handsomely and swept the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in straight sets (25 - 18, 25 - 10 and 25 - 12) Saturday afternoon at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler appreciated the team cohesion and work ethic in the victory. "We had a little bit more togetherness than we did last night. Yesterday, it was a combination of opening a new building and having a bunch of new athletes on the floor," he says. "I knew that today would be a better effort and I felt that the players had some cement off their shoulders and feet. We put a little bit more pressure on the Kodiaks and played with a little more purpose. When that happens, good things happen."

Red Deer's Emma Holmes accumulated 10 kills, 2 service aces and 2 digs, and Wandler liked the poise from the five-foot-ten outside hitter. "Emma is smart and has played a lot of volleyball. She is a first-year but didn't play like one. She played like a third year," says Wandler. "Emma has played a lot of volleyball on the beach and indoors. She's been very well coached in high school and in club. It will be helpful for us down the line with her. She's playing like she has something to prove."

Bachelor of Fine Art student, Natalie Bloemen, was chosen as the Queens Player-of-the-Game. The setter from Edmonton recorded 23 assists, 3 kills, 1 service ace and 1 dig in the home win. "As a first-year setter there's a lot on Natalie. Perhaps there were some first-year nerves last night," says Wandler. "She had more of a concise plan of what to do tonight and used more of Emma on the right side. She followed what we asked her to do."
