Saturday evening in Calgary, the Ambrose University Lions started well and eventually downed the Red Deer College Queens in three sets (25-20, 25-22 and 27-25).

McKenna Barthel was named the player-of-the-game for the Queens. The Business Administration Human Resources student contributed 7 kills, 6 digs, 1 assist, 1 service ace and 2 stuff blocks from the right side.

Miranda Dawe, a Kinesiology & Sport Studies student from Grande Prairie, finished with 5 kills. Megan Schmidt, Hanna Delemont and Naomi Jardine all recorded 3 kills each for RDC. Setter Chanelle Kayser accumulated 17 assists in the match. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student added 1 kill, 13 digs and 1 stuff block.

Jeena Johner led the Lions offensively with 9 kills.

Both teams had an effective net presence and they totaled 7 stuff blocks each.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler felt like the RDC Queens were chasing the game in Calgary. "We were not the disciplined team that we have been the past four weeks," said Wandler. "At this time of the year, if we can't be disciplined then it is tough to win and we are caught chasing the game. Sunday, we need to come out with a better effort and more urgency."

In a rematch, the second place RDC Queens (15-6) will look to rebound as they host the third place Ambrose University Lions (14-7) on Sunday, February 11 at 4:30 p.m. The Queens are 7-3 in their past 10 matches and they have already clinched a playoff berth.
