The Red Deer College Volleyball Queens have been on a roll and on Saturday evening in Calgary their momentum continued. The RDC Queens played consistently and earned their ninth match victory in a row at the hands of the SAIT Trojans in straight sets.

The first set was tight but the RDC Queens persevered 26-24. In convincing fashion, the Queens took the second set 25-14. SAIT put up a fight in the third set but the Red Deer College Queens prevailed 28-26.

Miranda Dawe was chosen as the player-of-the-game for the RDC Queens. The fifth-year student-athlete from Grande Prairie totaled 17 kills, 1 service ace, 12 digs and 2 stuff blocks. McKenna Barthel finished with 10 kills, 4 service aces and 7 digs. Setter Chanelle Kayser picked up 34 assists, 1 ace and 4 digs for the Queens. Jayden Roch led the way for SAIT with 11 kills.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler appreciated a full team effort. "We were really consistent with our demeanour on the court and having a veteran team helps. Chanelle Kayser and Miranda Dawe had a better connection tonight and McKenna Barthel saw more volume which was needed," said Wandler. "In the third set Jade Van Dyke and Hanna Delemont came into the match with energy. Britt Davis served some tough balls down 21-23. It was a great team effort tonight."

The second place Red Deer College Queens (13-3) will compete against the first place Briercrest College Clippers (15-1) on the road next weekend. The Queens are the only team that has defeated the Clippers this season. On Friday, January 19, the Clippers will host the Queens at 6:00 p.m. The two teams will compete on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
