Dawe propels Queens to weekend sweep in Olds

Saturday in Olds, the RDC Queens played another consistent match with a balanced offensive attack and swept the Broncos 25-21, 25-15 and 25-19.

Miranda Dawe led the way offensively for the Queens with 11 kills. The Kinesiology & Sport Studies student from Grande Prairie added 1 assist, 11 digs and 3 stuff blocks. Naomi Jardine contributed 6 kills, 2 assists, 2 service aces and 10 digs. Megan Schmidt and McKenna Barthel picked up 4 kills each. Setter Chanelle Kayser totaled 23 assists, 3 kills, 1 service ace, 1 dig, 2 stuff blocks, and tried to effectively spread out the offence. The Queens were strong at the net and they recorded a total of 14 stuff blocks.

Karley Dieken and Vctoria Ringuette had 5 kills each for the Olds College Broncos.

Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler noted another solid effort with several great performances. "Olds College played better, but we were consistent in our serve and block game again tonight. Miranda (Dawe) did a good job with the out of system balls that she was given. Her defence and serve game were both on par," said Wandler. "Naomi (Jardine) was very efficient also which was great to see as it builds depth with our left-side position. Chanelle (Kayser) had a good match and tried to balance out our offence."

Libero Kaylee Domoney was named the player-of-the-game for the RDC Queens. The second-year Business Administration Human Resources student-athlete earned 2 assists and 5 digs in the win. 

The Red Deer College Queens (11-3) are in second place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Volleyball South Division with 22 points and they have won their past 7 matches. On Friday, January 12, the RDC Queens will host the SAIT Trojans (6-8) at 6:00 p.m.
