Queens rebound with sweep of Rattlers in Medicine Hat

The Red Deer College Queens felt like they didn't play their best on Saturday, but on Sunday afternoon the RDC team competed with a purpose and rebounded handsomely with a strong performance against the Rattlers in Medicine Hat. After the Queens took control of the opening set, they rolled to a three set victory. 

The RDC Queens won by scores of 25 - 17, 25 - 20 and 25 - 20 to pick up the match victory.

Business Administration (Human Resources) student McKenna Barthel finished with 14 kills, 2 service aces and 9 digs for RDC. Miranda Dawe, a Kinesiology & Sport Studies student, recorded 14 kills, 12 digs and 3 stuff blocks for the Queens. 

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler liked the team's response on Sunday. "Yesterday, we had too many errors with our serve and attack, and we cleaned that up today," said Wandler. "All-in-all it was a good response and the performance today needs to be our standard of play."

Setter Chanelle Kayser, from Calgary, was chosen as the player-of-the-game for the RDC Queens. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student contributed 35 assists, 3 kills, 9 digs and 1 stuff block. 

"Chanelle led the way and she made a couple of changes with how she set our left-side attackers and how involved she was with our middle blockers," said Wandler. 

Brooke Christie was named the player-of-the-game for the Rattlers and accumulated 9 kills and 10 digs.

The Queens (5 - 3) will face the Ambrose University Lions (2 - 4) in a home-and-home series next weekend. On Friday, November 10, the RDC Queens will compete against the Lions on the road at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 11, the Queens will host the Lions at 6:00 p.m.
