Saturday evening, the Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team hosted the Olds College Broncos and the Queens set the tone early. After opening the first set on a significant run, the RDC team took control and earned a 3 set victory.

The Queens were ready to play from the opening serve and started the first set 9-0. When RDC went up 14-3, Olds College called a time-out. The Queens outscored the Broncos 11-8 the remainder of the set and won 25-11. In the second set, the Red Deer College Queens went up 5-0 off a strong block. They continued to press and earned an impressive 25-8 victory. Olds College started the third set on a 4-0 run but the Queens showed persistence and battled back. After RDC led 15-13, they outscored Olds College 10-8 and picked up a 25-21 win to claim the match in straight sets.

Naomi Jardine was named the RDC Queens player-of-the-game. The fourth-year outside hitter from Lacombe accumulated 8 kills, 2 service aces and 2 digs.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler was happy with Jardine's performance. "Naomi played well tonight," said Wandler. "She was excited to get the start and her teammates were a great support."

Wandler liked the energy and pressure put on the Olds College Broncos. "We had better energy between rallies tonight and a better serving effort. We applied consistent pressure today which is what we try to put on our opponents each match," said Wandler. "McKenna Olson was also solid tonight coming off the bench. It was a great opportunity for her to play."

McKenna Barthel added 8 kills, 1 assist and 3 digs while Chanelle Kayser contributed 15 assists, 1 kill and 2 service aces for the RDC Queens.

Over 3 sets, the Queens picked up 7 service aces. The Red Deer College Queens (3-1) will compete against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (3-1) on the road next weekend. On Friday, October 27 the Kodiaks will host the Queens at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, the 2 teams will compete at 1:00 p.m.
