Friday night, the Red Deer College Queens hosted the Olds College Broncos in the first game of a two game home stand on the weekend. The Queens were focused and swept the Broncos in 3 straight sets.

The RDC Queens were ready to compete from the opening serve. After the Queens pulled ahead 16-5, Broncos Head Coach Landon Thompson called a time-out. RDC continued to press and went up 20-8 off a kill by outside hitter Alyson Blain. The RDC Queens eventually won the opening set 25-10.

After the second set opened 2-2, the Queens started to pull ahead. Jade Van Dyke served an ace to give the Queens a 10-4 lead. RDC got ahead 16-8 off a Miranda Dawe kill. Olds narrowed the gap a bit but the Queens' left-side, Britt Davis capped off the second set with a stuff block to seal a 25-19 victory.

Early in the third set, the Broncos held a 4-2 lead but the Queens quickly climbed back. When RDC captured a 4 point margin (15-11), Olds College called a time-out. The Queens outscored the Broncos 10-6 the remainder of the set and earned a 25-17 win and the match victory.

Britt Davis earned the Queens player-of-the-game award. The Kinesiology & Sport Studies student accumulated 6 kills, 1 assist and 3 service aces.

RDC Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler was happy with the performance and noted the superb play of several student-athletes.

"It was nice to get many student-athletes some playing time and experience some successful opportunities early in the season. Kaylee Domoney played really well tonight. Her precision on her passing and her defence was very good," said Wandler. "She's confident and that will be important. Britt Davis was very consistent in her role of putting the ball away. All-in-all, it was a pretty good job on everyone's part."

Looking at the rematch on Saturday, Wandler would like to see an increased level in energy. "We have to bring to the table a lot more energy, rally to rally. Sometimes it's tough playing a scrappy type of volleyball but we have to learn to bring that focus and willingness to execute every single rally," said Wandler. "That's something that we talked about this week and we want to see it implemented on a more consistent basis."

The Queens (2-1) will face the Broncos (0-3) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in the RDC Main Gym.
