Last season, the Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team battled with the Briercrest College Clippers for top spot in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Volleyball South Division, and the Queens sealed first place in the last weekend of conference play. To play the Clippers in the Queens' home opener on Friday evening was a great way to kick off the 2017 -18 ACAC Women's Volleyball season. Momentum played a large role in this match. After the RDC Queens won the first 2 sets, the Clippers took the next 3 sets and claimed a win.

The Queens got off to a great start. They won the opening set 25-18 and the second set 25-20. The Briercrest Clippers gained momentum and picked up the next three sets, 25-22, 25-19 and 15-11 to take the match.

Over 5 sets, Miranda Dawe, from Grande Prairie, led the Queens with 12 kills. Chanelle Kayser picked up 34 assists. As a team, the Queens compiled 5 service aces.

Queens Volleyball Head Coach Chris Wandler was happy with the start but thought that the team got away from their competitive spirit. "I liked how we started the match. Everyone was giving and we were playing very team oriented volleyball," said Wandler. "Briercrest started to play better and we forgot to keep to our process of competing. As a group, we struggled with playing under some adversity."

Wandler would like to see improved passing on Saturday afternoon. "We have to pass the ball better when the game gets tighter," said Wandler. "It is easy to play well when everything goes smoothly."

In a rematch, the RDC Queens (0-1) will host the Briercrest College Clippers (1-0) on Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m.
