In Calgary, the Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team faced a motivated Ambrose University Lions squad that pushed the match to the limit. After the Queens won the opening set, the Lions took the next 2 sets but couldn't finish the match off. RDC rallied and eventually won in 5 sets.

The Queens started the match well, and won the opening set 25-16. In a close 2nd set, the Lions won 25-23. Ambrose University won 25-20 in the 3rd set to take a lead in the match. The Queens showed great resolve and battled back winning the 4th set 25-22 and the final set 15-10.

Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler liked the persistence and composure tonight.

"We faced a motivated Ambrose team tonight which was important for us," said Wandler. "We needed to get into a grind-it-out game. Throughout the match, we remained composed because we continued to focus on our process and the way that we play the game."

Wandler was happy with the play from several student-athletes.

"Miranda (Dawe) was strong and was named our player-of-the-game tonight. Lauren (Marshall), once again, had a solid passing and defensive performance," said Wandler. "Jade (Van Dyke) came into the match in the 2nd set and she responded very well tonight."

Miranda Dawe finished with 17 kills, 1 service ace and 23 digs. As a team, the Queens totalled 56 kills, 53 assists, 7 service aces, 14 blocks and 78 digs. With the victory, the RDC Queens (12-3) remain in a tie for 1st place in the ACAC Women's Volleyball South Division with 24 points. The Queens Volleyball team is ranked 12th by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Saturday at 6:00 p.m., the same 2 teams hit the court in a rematch at the RDC Main Gym.
