In Olds, Queens sweep Broncos

In the second half of the home-and-home weekend series the Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team faced the Olds College Broncos in Olds. While the sets were close, the result was the same with the Queens defeating the Broncos in 3 straight sets.

The Queens opened up with a 25-22 victory in the first set. Having to win by 2 points, the second set ended 26-24 in favour of RDC. The third set went back and forth with the Queens eventually winning 30-28.

Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler was pleased with the effort and result this afternoon.

"It was a great rebound weekend for us," said Wandler. "I like the fact that we accomplished and transferred our goals from during the week in training to games."

Wandler was impressed with the play from several student-athletes.

"Fauve (Welsh) started today and did what she is good at, which is provide team energy and enthusiasm," said Wandler. "Lauren (Marshall) and Miranda (Dawe) stabilized our serve and receive. Megan (Schmidt) was solid on both offence and defence. Brittney (Davis) contributed in all aspects of our game today."

Ashley Fehr was named the Queens player-of-the-game. The Bachelor of Education student contributed 27 assists, 1 kills, 1 service ace, 5 digs and 3 blocks. Brittney Davis added 6 kills, 1 assist, 5 digs and 3 blocks.

The Queens currently share top spot in the ACAC Women's Volleyball South Division standings with 14 points and hold a 7-3 record.

In Calgary, the RDC Queens face the Ambrose University Lions Friday, Nov. 18 at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Red Deer College Queens will host the same Lions squad at 6:00 p.m. in the RDC Main Gym
