Queens edged by Clippers in five sets

In Caronport, Saskatchewan it was a battle for first place in the ACAC Women's Volleyball South Division as the Red Deer College Queens faced the Briercrest Clippers. In a close match the Clippers shaded the RDC Queens in five sets.

Briercrest took the first set 25-18. The Queens tied the match up by winning the second set 25-23, accumulating 14 kills compared to 8 by the Clippers. Red Deer College went up 2-1 with a third set victory, 25-22. Briercrest College tied the match up by taking the fourth set 25-22. In the fifth set the Clippers won 15-12 to take the match 3 sets to 2.

As a team, the RDC Queens finished with 46 kills, 39 assists, 7 service aces and 52 digs.

Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler thought some aspects of their game could improve for Saturday afternoon.

"Our serve and pass game weren't at the level that we needed," said Wandler. "We addressed those areas after the game and we should see a better process from us tomorrow afternoon."

Miranda Dawe was named the Queens player-of-the game. The Kinesiology and Sport Studies student from Grande Prairie finished with 19 kills and 7 digs.

The same two teams face each other at Briercrest College Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. With the win the Clippers move to 6-1 on the season while the Queens are close behind with a 5-2 record.
