Volleyball Queens shaded in five sets

The Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team headed south to face the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in a weekend series. The Queens were coming off two close wins over the SAIT Trojans last weekend and were looking to carry that momentum into Lethbridge.

The Queens opened up the first set with a 25-23 victory. Lethbridge College came back to take the second set 25-22 and the third set 25-15. RDC had to win the next set to extend the match and they did 25-21. In the fifth and final set the Kodiaks won 15-12 to take the match.

Grande Prairie native Miranda Dawe finished with 16 kills, 2 service aces and 9 digs.

The Queens Head Coach Chris Wandler wasn't happy with the overall effort and result.

"Right out of the gate we seemed to have no energy," said Wandler. "We seemed to be chasing the game, weren't consistent, and lost focus."

First year libero Kaylee Domoney was named the Queens player-of-the-game.

Wandler spoke well of the Business Administration student.

"Kaylee came into the game and provided the team with some energy," said Wandler. "She gave the team some legs for sure tonight."

With the setback, Wandler sees future opportunity.

"This effort and result tonight provides the team with a learning opportunity," said Wandler. "We want to come out Saturday and compete at a higher level."

The Queens look to get back on the winning track in Lethbridge Saturday, Oct. 22 when they face the Kodiaks in a rematch at 1:00 p.m.
