Calgary, AB - Not much separated the SAIT Trojans and Red Deer College Queens Wednesday afternoon. While shots on goal were close, the Trojans were able to capitalize on their opportunities. The home team scored a goal in each half, earning a 2-0 win.
It took 15 minutes for SAIT's Jade Metz to break the scoreless deadlock.
Each team had three shots on net in the first half.
Early in the second half, the Trojans went up by a pair. Mackenzie Georgsen was able to find the back of the net in the 49th minute. The RDC Queens had an opportunity to reduce the gap off a penalty kick, but Trojans goalkeeper Stine Thorne guessed correctly.
The SAIT Trojans were able to hold on, sealing a 2-0 decision, their third consecutive Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) win.
Over 90 minutes, Queens goalkeeper Riley DeRaaf made six saves. SAIT's Stine Thorne also stopped six shots.
Kayla Nesseth, a second-year Social Work student, earned the Queens Player-of-the-Game award. Skye Gordan received the honour for the Trojans, assisting on the opening goal.
The Queens have a pair of games remaining this weekend. The RDC Queens (4-6-0) will play the first place Lethbridge College Kodiaks (7-1-2) at noon on Saturday, October 19 at RDC Main Field. Then 24 hours later, the Queens will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-3-3) in the final regular season contest.
