Broncos over Queens on the road

The Red Deer College Queens Soccer team played their 2nd match in less than 24 hours, and on Sunday afternoon the RDC Queens faced the Olds College Broncos on the road. The Broncos led 2-0 after 45 minutes and added 2 goals in the 2nd half for a 4-0 home win. 

Olds College opened the scoring from a Rachel Brodie cross. In the 31st minute, Brodie found Jamie Flett who headed the ball into the far side of the net. Brodie added a goal in the 38th minute and at the half the Broncos held a 2-0 lead.

The Broncos added a pair of goals from Brodie and Cassidy Brown in the final 45 minutes and completed a 4-0 victory.

Despite the loss, the Queens Soccer Head Coach Esad Elkaz saw many good things. "It is important to stay positive and I was very pleased with the student-athletes. They remained encouraging of each other despite being down in the match," said Elkaz. "These games are a learning process, especially for our first-year players. We will move on and continue to work harder."

Reesa Garez was chosen as the Queens player-of-the-game and Elkaz praised the midfielder. 

"Reesa was solid once again," said Elkaz. "She is very strong mentally and is a fantastic first-year player."

The RDC Queens (1-3-3) will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 12:00 p.m. and the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (1-4-1) on Sunday, Oct. 15 at noon. The Queens sit in 4th spot in the ACAC Women's Soccer South Division. Three games remain in the ACAC Women's Soccer schedule for the Queens, which means 9 points in the standings are still up for grabs.
