Rattlers over Queens in Medicine Hat

The Red Deer College Queens Soccer team knew today would be a challenge facing the ACAC Women's Soccer South Division leading Rattlers in Medicine Hat. The Queens kept the game close for much of the game but the Rattlers scored three goals in the second half for a 4-1 win.

Medicine Hat College struck first on a goal by Rikki Wilson in the 6th minute.

The Queens responded when Krysten Strand beat the Rattlers goalkeeper in the 15th minute. This was her second goal in as many days. Strand is a Bachelor of Arts student who formerly played with the University of Calgary Dinos.

The teams went into the half even 1-1.

In the second half the Rattlers scored three times within an eight minute span. Jordyn Bell scored in the 66th minute, Kaity Letwiniuk found the back of the net in the 67th minute and Meagan Clarke at the 74th minute.

The Queens Head Coach David Colley dealt with several regular players not able to play this afternoon.

"We were down to two subs on the bench with six injuries in our lineup," said Colley. "The student-athletes on the field played their hearts out. Our regular goalkeepers were dealing with injuries and Kaitlin D'Arcy filled in making some good saves."

Strand was named the Queens player-of-the-game and Colley was delighted with her performance.

"Kristen started off for us in an advanced defender role and played great," said Colley. "On her goal she fired a hard shot from about forty yards out that went in just under the cross bar."

Sitting third in the ACAC Women's Soccer South Division the Queens have a 3-2-3 record.

Next weekend the Queens play two home games at the RDC Field. Saturday, Oct. 22 the RDC Queens face the SAIT Trojans at 12:00 p.m. Olds College will be the opponent on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 12:00 p.m. These are the final two games of the regular season.
