Soccer Queens tie Lakeland, remain unbeaten

Soccer Queens tie Lakeland, remain unbeaten

While the Red Deer College Soccer Queens were hoping for a win on the road Saturday against the Lakeland College Rustlers, they left the pitch still unbeaten on the season after a 0-0 draw. On a wet field both sides didn't open the offense up, wary that an error could lose the game.

Head Coach David Colley recognized the tentative play from both sides mostly due to the weather conditions.

"It was rainy and the wind picked up this afternoon. We got behind their defenders a few times but slipped on the wet field," said Colley. "Both sides were afraid of making a mistake because one goal could win the game."

While the Queens created more scoring opportunities than the Rustlers, Colley still plans to work on the offense.

"We had the better chances today," said Colley. "We had some great chances that we are just putting wide."

Despite no scoring from either side, there were still some great efforts on the pitch.

"Taylor Heist had a strong game," said Colley. "Coming back from injury she played hard and helped control centre and the midfield. Her efforts gave some of the other Queens midfielders freedom on the pitch."

Heist is a Bachelor of Science student from Red Deer.

The RDC Queens remain unbeaten on the season with three wins, no losses and three ties. The Queens have twelve points in the ACAC Women's Soccer South division which ties the SAIT Trojans and Medicine Hat College Rattlers for top spot. Both the Trojans and Rattlers have four wins and two losses on the season.

The Queens head south to face Lethbridge College Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2:00 p.m.
