RDC Queens Soccer defeat SAIT, move into 1st

Saturday, it was a battle of the unbeaten RDC Queens versus the undefeated SAIT Trojans in Calgary. The Queens entered the game with 2 wins and 1 tie while the Trojans had 3 wins in the early season. The winner of this game would move into 1st place in the south division.

The Queens looked a bit nervous in the early going but Bachelor of Arts student Krysten Strand scored at the 8th minute. Strand scored from a corner, when she took possession and hooked the ball into the right side of the corner. At the half the Queens led 1-0. Zone play was fairly even in the opening half.

After the break at the half, the Queens came out hard and improved their play on the pitch.

RDC continued to press and Riley Morey beat the SAIT goalkeeper into the left corner from about 18 yards at the 61st minute.

Head Coach David Colley liked what he saw today.

"Krysten Strand, Riley Morey and our entire back line stood out today," said Colley. "Krysten was named our player-of-the-game. Riley seems to be really coming into her own. Our whole back line was superb. We made sensible decisions and are learning to take what we are given."

The RDC Queens played a solid defensive game and kept the Trojans off the score sheet and the game ended 2-0.

With the victory the Queens move into 1st place in the ACAC Women's South Soccer division. In the latest Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rankings the SAIT Trojans Women's Soccer club were ranked 6th nationally.

The Queens carry their 3-0-1 record in to Olds, Sunday when they face the Olds College Broncos.
