Ooks edge Queens in double-overtime, RDC earns three of possible four weekend points

Edmonton, AB With a third period goal from Neisha Germann, the RDC Queens sent Saturday's contest against the NAIT Ooks beyond regulation time, where they were eventually edged 6-5 in double-overtime. 

The NAIT Ooks held a 2-1 edge after 20 minutes. RDC's Mariah McKersie scored on the power play at 1:12 of the first. 

After the Ooks went up 3-1 in the second period, Jessi-Lynn Sumaling reduced the gap by a goal at 8:02. Catherine Longchamps recorded her second assist of the game. Before the period ended, Verca Kuzelova retained the two goal margin for NAIT.

The Queens had a strong third period. Sydnee Decorby and Mariah McKersie pulled the Queens even (4-4) in a 1:41 span. Less than two minutes later, Brittney Savard gave her Ooks a lead but it didn't last. With 7:05 remaining, Neisha Germann beat Kaitlyn Slator for the tying goal, eventually sending the game to overtime. 

At 3:26 of double-overtime, Julia Wing found the back of the net, providing NAIT a 6-5 decision. The Queens earned three of a possible four points in the weekend series. 

The RDC Queens scored twice on the power play, on eight attempts. The Ooks couldn't score on four tries. 

Karlee Fetch and Miranda Cook shared the goaltending duties, collectively stopping 17 shots. Kaitlyn Slator also made 17 saves. 

Next, the third place Red Deer College Queens (7-8-3-0) will play the Broncos (5-10-1-0) in Olds on Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m.
