Fantastic weekend at the Holiday Inn and Suites Thanksgiving Classic

The Red Deer College Queens and Kings Basketball teams hosted the Holiday Inn and Suites Thanksgiving Classic and the weekend provided a valuable experience.

In an afternoon contest, the Keyano College Huskies won 51-41 over the RDC Queens.

RDC earned a solid 71-48 victory over Okanagan.

The Red Deer College Queens defeated the King's University Eagles 58-55 in overtime.
Queens Basketball Head Coach Ken King saw the importance of the tournament for the players and the coaching staff. "The experience this weekend is huge. It gives us an opportunity to get all of our 17 players into the lineup at some point over the weekend," said King. "As coaches, it gives us a chance to see what we got in terms of who we've added to our returning group and how they play together."

The RDC Kings soundly defeated the Keyano College Huskies 95-61.

The Red Deer College Kings won 92-82 over the King's University Eagles.

In a close game, Okanagan won by a basket (80-78).
Kings Basketball Head Coach Clayton Pottinger saw tremendous value in the weekend tournament. "We love this tournament. It is our home tournament and we have a chance to get teams into our gym. Some teams are ones that we wouldn't normally get a chance to play," said Pottinger. "It is super valuable for us and for everyone. The pre-season is where you can decide how your lineup will work, what you need to work on and how you measure up. For us it is key. We have fewer exhibition games than some other teams so for us we really want to focus on the quality of the games."
The Red Deer College Basketball teams will begin the 2017 - 18 season on Saturday, Oct. 21 against the St. Mary's University Lightning in Calgary.
