Kodiaks over Queens in Lethbridge

After a convincing win against the Ambrose University Lions, the Red Deer College Queens travelled to Lethbridge to face the undefeated Lethbridge College Kodiaks (6-0) Saturday.

The Kodiaks jumped out to an early lead on their home court and after the first quarter were up 23-13. In the second quarter, the RDC Queens scored 14 points but at the half trailed 42-27.

The Queens scored 11 points in the third quarter and equalled the 15 points that the Kodiaks put up in the fourth quarter but dropped the road game 81-53 against a tough opponent.

Kiana Mintz led the RDC Queens with 17 points. The Bachelor of Education student also added 3 rebounds and impressively was successful on 5-of-8 attempts from behind the three point arch. Emily White accumulated 12 points, 1 block, 3 steals, 2 assists and 4 rebounds for the Queens.

Queens Head Coach Ken King saw stretches of good play in tonight's game.

"We had a couple of good quarters tonight where we executed well and played good defence but we didn't do it on a consistent basis," said King. "We got on some offensive runs but the Kodiaks capitalized on our defensive miscues. We had major process victories in our attitude and defence today that will be a good basis for the next half."

Kiana Mintz was named the Queens player of-the-game.

The Queens nailed 8-of-16 three point attempts for a solid 50% efficiency. The Kodiaks were successful on 3-of-16 shots from behind the three point arch.

The RDC Queens are back in ACAC regular season action Jan. 13, 2017 as they face the SAIT Trojans in Calgary at 6:00 p.m.
