Trojans over Queens

The Red Deer College Queens Basketball team headed to Calgary Friday, Nov. 11 for their first road game of the season to face the SAIT Trojans. Starting strongly, the Trojans outscored the Queens 38-28 in the first half. The Queens tried to rally and scored 34 second half points, but fell short 67-62.

The Trojans came out hard on their home court and after the first quarter led 21-11. RDC picked up their energy in the second quarter and each side scored 17 points, but SAIT still led 38-28. The Queens outscored the Trojans 19-12 in the third quarter but narrowly trailed 50-47. SAIT scored 17 fourth quarter points, while the Queens responded with 15 points of their own. The game ended 67-62 in favour of the Trojans.

Queens Head Coach Ken King thought the slow start made it difficult to complete the rally.

"The team started slowly and did not containing the ball handlers well which gave SAIT a lot of momentum," said King. "In the second half we came out with far more energy but it came in waves and we couldn't close the gap."

King thought a few student-athletes stood out positively and that Saturday is a new day.

"Emily White and Lauren Bailey played really well tonight," said King. "We need to refocus and come back tomorrow ready to play."

White finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and 1 block. Accumulating 6 points, 2 steals, 1 assist and 5 rebounds was Bailey. The Queens are even on the season with a 2-2 record.

Saturday, Nov. 12 the RDC Queens face the St. Mary's University Lightning in Calgary at 6:00 p.m. The season series between these two teams is tied 1-1.
