Parchomchuk pushes Kings over Broncos

Saturday in Olds, the Red Deer College Kings didn't play their most consistent match of the season, but they played well enough to defeat the Broncos in four sets 25-21, 23-25, 25-10 and 25-16.

Parker Biletsky finished with 6 kills for the Kings. The Bachelor of Arts Communications student from Red Deer added 2 service aces, 3 digs and 1 stuff block. Evan Parchomchuk had 7 kills and Mark DeWit chipped in with 5. Setter Thomas Wass picked up 21 assists, 1 service ace, 1 kill, 7 digs and 1 stuff block. 

Haiden Hurtig led the Broncos with 10 kills. 

Kings Head Coach Aaron Schulha was hoping to spread out the playing time on Saturday but was disappointed with the Kings' ability to finish. "I wanted to get other guys some playing time and try to rest a few of our veteran players. After a very poor effort in the second set, I had to put Evan Parchomchuk and Adam Turlejski into the match and they made a huge difference for us," said Schulha. "Evan and Adam were a combined + 15 in the last two sets so it's evident that we need those two involved. Olds College is an improved team and they work very hard, but it was extremely disappointing to see the lack of execution and inability to follow our game plan by some of the players."

Parchomchuk was named the player-of-the-game for the RDC Kings. The Kinesiology & Sport Studies student from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan contributed 7 kills, 1 service ace, 1 dig and 2 stuff blocks.

The Red Deer College Kings (9-5) will host the SAIT Trojans (12-2) on Friday, January 12 at 8:00 p.m. in what should be an exciting match. After the weekend of Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Volleyball action, the Kings are part of a cluster of teams that share second spot in the south. The Trojans still hold down the top spot with 24 points. The RDC Kings, Medicine Hat College Rattlers, Briercrest College Clippers and Lethbridge College Kodiaks all sport a 9-5 record and have 18 points.
