Huskies win their opening match in 3 sets over Clippers

The final match on Thursday featured a showdown between the Keyano College Huskies and the Briercrest College Clippers. During the regular season, the Huskies captured top spot in the north while the Clippers placed 4th in the south. From Keyano College, Justin Delorme, Blazej Pellowsi, Alex Sabourin and Jakub Zdybek were named to the 2016-2017 ACAC Men's Volleyball North All-Conference team. Zdybek was also chosen as the Rookie of the Year for the North Division.

There were several swings in momentum in the opening set. The Huskies took an early lead (3-0) but the Clippers battled back and grabbed a 4 point lead (19-15). Eventually Keyano College won 27-25. Jakub Zdybek led the Huskies with 4 kills. Taylor Klassen had 4 kills for the Clippers. 

The 2nd set was tied in the early going (5-5) but then the Huskies pulled ahead by 7 (16-9). Keyano College continued to press and took the set 25-17. Over 2 sets, Blazej Pollowski totalled 18 assists, 1 dig and 1 stuff block for the Huskies. Matthew Ginter stacked up 9 assists and 5 digs for the Clippers.

After the teams were tied 18-18 in the 3rd set, the Huskies went on a 7-3 run to win 25-21 and complete the match victory.

Blazej Pellowski was named the Huskies player-of-the-game while Taylor Klassen received the award for the Clippers. The Business Administration student accumulated 29 assists, 1 dig and 1 stuff block for Keyano College. Klassen, a Psychology student, finished with 8 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs and 2 stuff blocks for Briercrest College. 

The Keyano College Huskies will face the RDC Kings on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Briercrest College will compete against NAIT on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

Earlier today, the SAIT Trojans defeated The King's University Eagles in 5 sets, the Medicine Hat College Rattlers won in 3 sets over the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves. The defending champion RDC Kings defeated the NAIT Ooks in 4 sets.
