RDC Athlete of the Week for Oct. 28, 2019

Turner Johnson had an excellent weekend for the RDC Kings at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Soccer Championship, helping his team earn a silver medal. The second-year member of the Kings played every minute of all three games and was an integral part of his team’s success in Sherwood Park. In the quarter-finals against Concordia, the hard-working defender from Red Deer helped limit the Thunder’s offence to a single goal in a 2-1 victory. Turner had an outstanding game against the SAIT Trojans in the semi-finals. He played 120 minutes and scored the Kings’ lone goal during regulation time. After 30 minutes of extra time and the teams were still even 1-1, the Academic Upgrading student was successful on his penalty kick, helping the Kings defeat the Trojans and advance to the gold medal game. He was also named the Kings Player-of-the-Game. The Lethbridge College Kodiaks edged the RDC Kings 2-0 in the finals, but Turner displayed another solid outing against a talented team. Turner and the Kings will compete at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Soccer National Championship from November 6 to 9 in Oshawa, Ontario.
