With the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Soccer regular season winding down, the Red Deer College Kings competed against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Saturday afternoon in their second last home game. Late in the opening half, Medicine Hat College struck first on the RDC Field. The Rattlers added a second goal in the latter half and they eventually picked up the 2-0 victory.

Talon Grenier was the goalkeeper for the Kings while Joao Vitor Duz Batista was at the other end of the pitch.

The Rattlers opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Jared Ursman found the back of the net. Eventually, Ursman put Medicine Hat College up by 2 in the 77th minute. His individual effort, deke, and shot to the top corner proved to be the insurance goal. The Rattlers picked up a 2-0 road win.

Kings Soccer Head Coach Wade Groenewegen was pleased with many aspects of the team's game. "We played well enough in all areas but we didn't finish. Our last pass before the goal wasn't good enough today," said Groenewegen. "Overall, we defended quite well. Their goals were moments of brilliance by a fifth-year Rattlers student-athlete. We will have to adjust our roster tomorrow as a few players gave everything they had today and probably don't have much left in the tank for tomorrow."

Tanner Steenbergen, a second-year Electrical Engineering Technology student, was selected as the Kings player-of-the-game. Grenier stopped 5 shots while Batista turned aside 2.

The RDC Kings (1-6-1) will face the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (4-1-2) on Sunday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the RDC Field.
