The Red Deer College Kings Soccer team exhibited a good effort but couldn't solve the Broncos' goalkeeper on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos went up 2 off a penalty kick and warded off the Kings' attack for the 2-0 home win.

About midway through the opening half, the Broncos' Abiodun Owolabi struck 1st to take a 1-0 lead. Then, Dan Ribeiro de Abreu extended the Broncos' lead by a pair. On a penalty kick, Ribeiro de Abreu put Olds College up 2-0. The Kings applied a lot of pressure in the latter half, fired a few shots just wide but couldn't score on the afternoon. The Olds College Broncos picked up a 2-0 victory.

Koltan Childs, an Open Studies student-athlete from Red Deer, was named the Kings player-of-the-game.

RDC Kings Soccer Head Coach Wade Groenewegen liked the team's pressure and perseverence in an attempt to get back into the game. "It was an unfortunate result today. We owned more of the ball and spent more time in the attacking end. But poor execution at key times really hurt us," said Groenewegen. "The student-athletes pushed to the very end but we just couldn't break into the goal. Theoren Gill had a couple of close strikes in the 2nd half that went just past the post and forced an excellent save from their goalkeeper early in the 1st."

The Red Deer College Kings (1-5-1) will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (3-2-1) on Satuday, Oct. 14 at 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 15, the RDC Kings will face the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (3-1-2) at the RDC Field at 2:00 p.m.
