Kings persevere to tie Rattlers

After a solid win over the Lethbridge College Kodiaks the Red Deer College Kings Soccer team faced the Rattlers in Medicine Hat Sunday afternoon. The Rattlers have sat at or near the top of the ACAC Men's Soccer South Division for much of the season. The RDC Kings carried over their commendable play from yesterday and tied the Rattlers 1-1.

In windy conditions it was a defensive first half with neither team managing to find the back of the net.

Albert-Woodroffe-Bro scored in the second half to put the Rattlers up 1-0 in the 59th minute.

The Kings worked tirelessly to tie the game and in the 70th minute Theoren Gill knotted the game up 1-1. Gill, from Red Deer, is a Bachelor of Education student.

The Rattlers had a penalty shot late in the game but couldn't score and the game ended 1-1.

Ben Anderson was named the Kings player-of-the-game.

The Kings Head Coach Wade Groenewegen praised the Sylvan Lake forward.

"Ben had a really strong game this afternoon. He was a bit sore today but continued to be a physical force on the field," said Groenewegen. "He worked hard and created many offensive opportunities."

Overall it was a successful weekend for the RDC Kings, tying a strong Rattlers team on the road and winning 5-1 in convincing fashion in Lethbridge. The Kings now have a 3-4-1 record and sit fourth in the South Division.

The Kings host the SAIT Trojans Saturday, Oct. 22 and the Olds College Broncos Sunday, Oct.23. Both games start at 2:00 p.m. at the RDC Field.
