Kings Soccer defeated 3-1 by SAIT

The RDC Kings faced a tough opponent in the SAIT Trojans Saturday afternoon. The Trojans entered the game with a perfect 3-0-0 record while the Kings accumulated 1 win and 2 losses in the early part of the regular season.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the 1st half when William Akio scored at the 30th minute. The half wound down with SAIT leading by a goal.

Early in the 2nd half the Trojans struck again. William Akio scored his second goal of the afternoon at the 47th minute.

The Red Deer College Kings responded at the 65th minute when Red Deer native Theoren Gill bent his shot around the goalkeeper, scoring inside the left post. The goal narrowed the Trojan's lead to 2-1. Gill was eventually named the player-of-the-game for the RDC Kings.

The Trojans extended their lead when Jeffrey Hamm scored at the 80th minute. Neither team could score the remainder of the game and SAIT won 3-1.

Despite some strong individual efforts the Kings Head Coach Wade Groenewegen did not see the attention to detail this afternoon from his squad.

"This afternoon we were not as focussed," said Groenewegen. "We seemed to take our own heads out of the game."

The Kings look to get back into the winning column Sunday, Sept. 25 when they face the Olds College Broncos at 2:00 p.m.
