Five different skaters score in Kings win over the Ooks

Five different skaters score in Kings win over the Ooks

Edmonton, February 3, 2024 – The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings got some revenge on Saturday night as they managed to finish the weekend with a win and split the home-and-home series with the NAIT Ooks this weekend.

After both teams were held scoreless in the opening 20 minutes of play, Kings forward Ryland McNinch (Bachelor of Education) opened the scoring three minutes into the second period.

Three minutes later while both teams were down a skater, forward Nolan Doell (Bachelor of Education) fired home a beautiful pass from teammate Tanner Sklaruk (Open Studies) to give the Kings a 2-0 lead. Doell was alter named the player of the game.

But the two-goal lead was immediately split in half with Ooks forward Keegan Tiringer firing a wrist shot past goaltender Kristian Lyon (Business Administration) for NAIT's first goal of the game.

Moments later, from a terrible angle, defenceman Liam Stalwick (Bachelor of Kinesiology) banked the puck off an Ooks skate into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Forward Jaxon Steele (Bachelor of Kinesiology) would become the fourth different Kings skater to score and make it a 4-1 game.

Almost 10 minutes into the third, forward Jacob Wozney scored his third goal of the weekend to make it a 5-1 game which ended up being the final score.

The Kings will hit the road next Friday as they head down to Calgary for the first game of the home-and-home series with the SAIT Trojans. The puck will drop at 6 pm.
