Kings Edge Concordia Thunder

Kings Edge Concordia Thunder

The Red Deer College Kings traveled to Edmonton to face the Concordia University Thunder Friday evening.

The Kings opened the scoring late in the 1st with a goal from Austin Hunter to put them in the lead.

In the second period of play, Jordan Busch of the Thunder was able to get one past RDC`s Bachelor of Business Administration student-athlete Mike Salmon to tie it up.

Midway through the 3rd, a goal from Rory Davidson brought the score to 2-1 for the Thunder. The Kings responded with a quick goal from Dylan Thudium to tie it back up. RDC had a 19-6 shot advantage in the 3rd period. With only 14 seconds left in the game, RDC Kings Logan Sceviour scored the tie-breaking goal to win 3-2.

The Kings outshot the Thunder 38-24 throughout the three periods of play.

Kings Hockey Head Coach, Trevor Keeper, was impressed with how well the RDC Kings Player of the Game, Austin Hunter, and his linesmen Logan Sceviour and Ben Williams played. "Logan scored our winning goal and his line mate, Austin, was player of the game with 2 points, and Ben had two points as well. They were all on a line together and played really well today. " Rory Davidson received Player of the Game for Concordia.

Overall, Keeper was happy with the effort and result. "I liked how our guys played in the third period" said Keeper. ``We set a goal of getting five shots on net every five minute segments in the third period, and we ended up getting 19. That kind of pressure is what allowed us to win finally in the end. ``

The two teams will battle it out again Saturday. "We have to play the same way we did in the first,`` said Keeper. ``And second, we have to play right through three periods tomorrow and not give them a chance to get into the game at all. We're looking to finish off our regular season playing playoff style hockey, which we have done for the last three games now - outside of that second period today.``

In the final matchup of the regular season, the Kings host the Thunder at the Penhold Multiplex Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
