Friday, the Red Deer College Kings Hockey team faced the SAIT Trojans in Calgary. The Trojans got out to a 3-0 lead but the Kings showed persistence and battled back with the next 2 goals. Time ran out and SAIT picked up a 3-2 home win.

Troy Trombley started in goal for the Kings while Bolton Pouliot was in net for the Trojans. At 6:40 of the 1st period, Dean Allison scored to give SAIT a 1-0 lead. The Trojans tested Trombley 8 times while the Kings had 4 shots on Pouliot.

At 4:20 of the 2nd period, Geoff Crisfield put the Trojans up 2-0. Former Kings player, Pat Martens gave SAIT a 3-0 lead on the power play at 6:20. Tyler Berkholtz responded at 8:41 on the power play to put the Kings on the board. David Heath picked up the assist. SAIT outshot RDC 15-11 in the middle frame.

Berkholtz picked up his 2nd goal of the game when he connected on the power play at 4:08 of the 3rd period to narrow SAIT's lead 3-2. Riley Simpson and Tanner Butler picked up the helpers. The RDC Kings worked hard in an attempt to tie the game, but time ran out and SAIT picked up a 3-2 home win. Each team had 9 shots in the 3rd period.

Kings Head Coach Trevor Keeper appreciated the effort but recognized the difficulty of getting down 3 goals.

"It is tough getting down by more than 1 goal," said Keeper. "They guys played hard, especially in the 3rd period."

Keeper liked the strong work ethic from the Berkholtz line which featured a new addition on Friday.

"We moved Ben Williams onto a line with Tyler Berkholtz and Riley Simpson," said Keeper. "That line worked really hard. Berkholtz scored a couple of power play goals and did a nice job of going to the net."

The Kings connected on 2-of-6 power plays while the Trojans went 2-for-8 with the extra skater. The RDC Kings hold 5th place in ACAC Men's Hockey with 19 points in 19 games.

Saturday at 7:00 p.m., the RDC Kings face-off against the SAIT Trojans at the Penhold Multiplex.
