Hockey Kings shut-out Portage College 4-0

Entering tonight's game in Lac La Biche, the Red Deer College Kings Hockey team trailed the Portage College Voyageurs by 1 point in the ACAC Men's Hockey standings, but that changed by the end. Troy Trombley was in goal for the Kings and had a strong game. Nathan Warren started in net for the Voyageurs but was later replaced by Olivier Charest. Once the Kings captured the lead in the first period they didn't look back and Troy Trombley was perfect in net to seal a 4-0 road victory.

Nick Fountain opened the scoring for the Kings at 8:27 into the first period after being set up by Austin Hunter. RDC continued to apply pressure and with 30 seconds remaining Riley Simpson scored short-handed to give his Kings a 2-0 lead. Trevor Costello picked up the lone assist.

After 20 minutes RDC fired 9 shots on Warren and Portage College had 14 shots on Trombley. 

Landon Kletke gave the Kings a 3-0 lead on the power play at 9:08 of the middle frame. Zak Hicks and Dustin Gorgi picked up the assists. 

In the second period the RDC Kings tested Warren 15 more times while the Voyageurs had 8 shots.

At 5:25 into the third period David Heath added to the Kings lead putting them up 4-0. Portage College switched goaltenders after the goal. Trombley was perfect stopping 11 more shots in the third period for a game total of 33 saves. The Kings had 12 third period shots on Warren and Charest for a total of 36.

The Kings were successful on 1-of-7 power play opportunities while the Voyageurs went 0-for-3 with the man advantage. Troy Trombley was named the Kings player-of-the-game. The goaltender from Sherwood Park made 33 saves for the shut-out. With the win, the Kings move into fifth place in the ACAC Men's Hockey standings and the Voyageurs drop to sixth. However, the RDC Kings have only played 9 games while several teams have played 11. The Briercrest Clippers have completed 12 games in the regular season.

Saturday, Nov. 5 the RDC Kings host the Portage College Voyageurs at the Penhold Multiplex at 7:00 p.m.
