Hockey Kings drop road game against SAIT

Hockey Kings drop road game against SAIT

After the SAIT Trojans won in overtime on the road last night in Penhold, the Red Deer College Kings Hockey team were hoping to return the favour in Calgary. Troy Trombley got the start in net for the Kings. The Sherwood Park native entered the game with a 1.58 goals against average. Bolton Pouliot once again started for the Trojans in goal. Both goaltenders have Western Hockey League (WHL) experience.

The game was close for the majority of the game but the Trojans eventually won 6-1.

Zach Wittenburg opened the scoring for the Trojans 6:33 into the first period when he picked up his own rebound, spun around and found the back of the net. Twenty-two seconds later SAIT extended their lead 2-0 on a goal from Hunter Mills.

If was a defensive battle in the middle frame and neither team could score.

The Kings pushed to get on the board and with 13:05 left in the third period Scott Ferguson narrowed the lead 2-1. Landon Kletke and Dylan Thudium picked up the assists.

The Kings Head Coach Trevor Keeper thought the Sylvan Lake product had a good night.

"Scott picked up his first goal in the ACAC tonight," said Keeper. "We moved him to the Thudium line and he played well."

SAIT scored four more times in the final period for a 6-1 win. The Trojans fired 34 shots at Trombley while the Kings had 15 shots on Pouliot.

Tanner Butler was named the Kings player-of-the-game.

Keeper had positive words about the blue liner from Souris, Manitoba.

"Tanner logged a lot of minutes for us tonight," said Keeper. "He made many good plays and was probably our best defenseman."
