The Gutter RDP Athlete of the Week for November 6, 2023

Eduardo Crespo and Kings Basketball have been rolling as of late. The team sits tied for first in the South Division with a 5-1 record with their one loss coming against the SAIT Trojans in the first weekend of basketball action. Since this loss, the Kings have won four in a row which includes a huge 98-71 victory over the NAIT Ooks this past Saturday. Crespo was a huge contributor to the victory over the Ooks as well as their win on Friday night against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.

After suffering a nose injury in the pre-season, the third-year Brazilian made his season debut against the Wolves in which he picked up where he left off last season. In the 21 minutes he played, he scored 17 points but he also was a key contributor on defence as he picked up five rebounds on the defensive side of the court. He also finished with four assists and four steals on his way to being named the player of the game.

On Saturday night, he was even more impressive earning himself a double-double in the victory over the Ooks. He finished with 12 rebounds and 24 points while shooting 44 per cent from the field in the 28 minutes played. Crespo was later named the player of the game for the second consecutive night to start his season on a positive note.

The Kings will be off this weekend but will be back in action on November 17 as they head to Edmonton for a clash with the Concordia University Thunder.

Mr. Mikes RDP Athlete of the Week for January 23, 2023

Eduardo Crespo was a key player for the Kings Basketball team as they were able to defeat the Ambrose University Lions in back-to-back tough games. Both games could have gone either way with the Lions taking the lead multiple times in the game but that did not stop the Kings from keeping their composure and battling to take the lead back. Crespo finished with 16 points on Friday night and then topped that off with a 34-point night, 41-minute performance on Saturday evening. This includes a layup in the last five seconds that sent this game into overtime where the Kings would win 92-91.

On this five-game winning streak, the Kings are on, Crespo is averaging 22 points and just over 31 minutes on the floor. On the year, he is ranked 3^rd in the ACAC with 30.8 points per 40 minutes. According to Head Coach Darren Graham, if Crespo can stay healthy and out of foul trouble, he can be the best player on the floor on any given night as with his size and ball-handling skills, he can play all the positions.

Fas Gas RDP Athlete of the Week for November 14, 2022

Eduardo Crespo is definitely not unfamiliar to being named an RDP Athletics Fas Gas Athlete of the Week as this is his second award in a matter of weeks. The Brazilian-forward had a phenomenal game against The Kings University Eagles in the Kings only match of the weekend. In his 27 minutes on the court, he put up 29 points, three steals, and six rebounds which were all defensive rebounds.

Head Coach Darren Graham spoke very highly of him at the start of the season and wants to keep him in the game whenever possible. He is a big man down low, but he also can lead the offence with his point-guard capabilities. Crespo is currently averaging 14.2 points per game as well as 4.4 rebounds per game. The Kings basketball team will be in action this weekend with both games at home against the Keyano College Huskies and the Lakeland College Rustlers.

Fas Gas RDP Athlete of the Week for October 24, 2022

For his performance on the pitch as well as the hard court this past weekend, second-year striker and forward Eduardo Crespo is named the Kings Player of the Week. On Saturday, Crespo was a busy student-athlete with a soccer game in Red Deer at 2 pm and a basketball game in Calgary at 8 pm. When the Kings played the Olds College Broncos in the final regular season soccer game, Crespo was a crucial player in the teams 3-3 draw. He picked up the assist on the first goal but when the Kings went down 3-1, it was Crespo who took the team on his shoulders. He picked up two more assists on the final two goals in the last eight minutes of the match to come away with an all-important draw against the Broncos. This draw gave the Kings home field advantage in the play-in game.

After this game finished, Crespo immediately drove off to Calgary to take part in the Kings game against the St. Mary’s University Lightning where he was a part of the starting five. He was not awarded a player of the game in this match, but he did finish off with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. It was his leadership and playing ability that kept the Kings in it against the Lightning in the fourth quarter.
