Klassen's 37 points helps Kings sink Clippers

Caronport, SK On the strength of Spencer Klassen's 37 points and a superb 59 points in the first half, the RDC Kings defeated the Briercrest College Clippers 93-79 on the road. 

The Kings were a force in the opening quarter, putting up 30 points. Klassen led the way with 10. RDC added another 29 points in the second quarter. The Clippers responded with 23 and the RDC Kings led 59-41 at the half. Briercrest College held a slight 38-34 advantage in the latter half, but RDC capped off a 93-79 victory. 

Spencer Klassen was recognized as the Kings Player-of-the-Game. Along with his 37 points, the Bachelor of Education Elementary student added six rebounds and hit four out of nine from beyond the three-point arc. Anthony Harper knocked down 13 points and Khurram Sultan had 11.

Nicholas Gregerson scored 35 points for Briercrest. CJ Greer contributed 23.

The Kings connected on 76.9 per cent of their free-throws and 52.2 per cent from the field. The Clippers hit 43.1 per cent of their shots from the field.

The RDC Kings (12-8) were the stronger team on the boards (38-31).

The road win was the Kings' seventh in a row which moved them into a tie for third spot in the south with the Ambrose University Lions (12-8). Both squads have 24 points. The Medicine Hat College Rattlers (13-8) have 26, and sit alone in second. SAIT (19-1) leads the division with 38 points and Lethbridge College (11-9) is in fifth with 22.

On Saturday, February 23 at 3:00 p.m., the Kings and Clippers will compete in a rematch to finalize the regular season.
