Kings hit triple digits in strong bounce-back performance against Lightning

Calgary, AB - It was a new day and a much different performance and result from the Red Deer College Kings against the host St. Mary's University Lightning. The Kings won every quarter and displayed the consistent effort they were looking for, impressively downing the Lightning 108-82. 

Kings Head Coach Clayton Pottinger had the Kings ready to play from the opening tip-off. His team exploded for 57 first-half points. St. Mary's University responded with 44. Spencer Klassen had another strong effort for RDC, putting up 15 points over two quarters. Cordell Minnifree had 16 for the Lightning. 

Outscoring St. Mary's 51-38 in the second-half, the RDC Kings earned a 108-82 road victory. 

Spencer Klassen totaled 34 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds, while connecting on eight-of-eleven three-point attempts. Khurram Sultan picked up 20 points and Eric Bakker added 15.

Cordell Minnifree contributed 24 points for St. Mary's.

As a team, the Kings' shooting percentage improved from the previous night. RDC hit 52.6 per cent from the field, 75 per cent from the line and remarkably 70.8 per cent from three. The Lightning's shooting efficiency was lower in all three categories (47.5, 73.1 and 33.3). 

With the win, the RDC Kings evened their record at 5-5 and sit in fifth in the south, only two points behind the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (6-5). The Rattlers have also played one more game. 

Next weekend, the Kings (5-5) will be put to the test as they host the first place SAIT Trojans (10-0) on Friday, January 11 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at 8:00 p.m.
