The RDC Basketball Kings and Ambrose University Lions entered Friday's contest tied for third in the south standings so both teams knew that it was a critical game with the regular season winding down. The Kings outscored the Lions in each half and earned a significant 94-73 road victory.

In the opening half, the Kings were ready to play and scored 50 points. The Lions picked up 31. Daniel Powell contributed 11 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist over two quarters for RDC.

Then RDC outscored Ambrose University 44-42 in the second half and earned a 94-73 win. In the latter half, Solon Ellis put up 12 points and 3 assists for the Kings.

Kings Basketball Head Coach Clayton Pottinger appreciated the defensive effort especially over the first two quarters. "In the first half we defended really well," said Pottinger. "In the second half there was a bit of a let down but we were able to close it out."

Pottinger appreciated the performance from several student-athletes. "Daniel Powell was super efficient. He finished with 20 points, 19 boards, 4 assists and 1 steal in only 22 minutes played," said Pottinger. "Solon Ellis perhaps played his best game of the season."

Solon Ellis, a Business Administration student, contributed 15 points, 6 assists, 1 rebound and 1 steal.

In the rematch at RDC, Pottinger would like the Kings to repeat their first half defensive performance over the entire game. "We want to play with a high level of defensive intensity over a full four quarters on Saturday," said Pottinger.

As a team, the Kings were strong on the boards and stacked up 11 more rebounds (53-42) than the Lions.

The third place RDC Kings (11-7) will compete against the fourth place Ambrose University Lions (10-9) on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at RDC. The Kings are 7-3 in their past 10 games.
