Kings drop road game in Calgary

The Basketball Kings knew that the SAIT Trojans would respond with a solid effort on their home court and with one of their stars, Murphy Beya, back in the lineup the Trojans earned a 95-78 win Saturday afternoon. 

The Kings were within 4 points in the first quarter (21-17) and had contributions from several student-athletes. Eric Bakker connected from the field , Cody White sank a pair of free-throws and Dshawn Tyrell ended the quarter with a bucket.

The Trojans gradually built on their lead in the second quarter. Cody White and Omon Edobar hit from three-point range but SAIT pulled ahead by 9 (40-31). Omon Edobar put up 8 points for the Kings over two quarters. Murphy Beya scored 10 points for the Trojans.

SAIT had their best offensive output in the third quarter connecting for 33 points. RDC scored 21 points but trailed 73-52.

The fourth quarter was the strongest offensively for the Kings, outscoring the Trojans 26-22. SAIT eventually picked up a 95-78 home win. 

Omon Edobar was chosen as the player-of-the-game for the RDC Kings. The first-year guard from Calgary totaled 22 points, 3 steals and 2 assists. Dshawn Tyrell accumulated 22 points. Cody White recorded 11 points and hit 3-of-9 three-point attempts. Eric Bakker added 11 points and 8 rebounds. 

Murphy Beya totaled 20 points, 4 assists and 15 rebounds for the Trojans. SAIT was strong on the boards and had 66 rebounds. 

The RDC Kings shot 33.3% from the field and 32% from behind the three-point arc. 

The Red Deer College Kings (10-7) will compete against the Ambrose University Lions (10-7) on Friday, February 16 at 8:00 p.m. on the road. Both teams are tied for third spot in the south with 20 points. The Kings will host the Lions on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
