Basketball Kings drop road decision in Olds

Thursday evening, the Red Deer College Basketball Kings trailed at the half, were outscored in the second half and dropped a 120-82 decision to the Broncos in Olds.

At the half, the Broncos led 62-41. Omon Edobar contributed 12 points, 2 steals and 2 assists for the Kings over two quarters. Linden Jackson put up 18 points and 3 assists for the Broncos. 

In the second half, Olds College outscored RDC 58-41 and finalized a 120-82 home win. Eric Bakker stacked up 7 points and 3 rebounds in the last two quarters for the Kings. Dyson Surmik recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block in the latter half for the Broncos.

Kings Basketball Head Coach Clayton Pottinger credited the Olds College Broncos. "When Olds College got on a roll we had a difficult time controlling their tempo," said Pottinger. "They were better than us in many aspects tonight."

The Kings had one student-athlete who scored over 20 points on Thursday. "Omon Edobar was named our player-of-the-game and he finished with 21 points," said Pottinger. The first-year guard from Calgary added 3 steals, 4 assists and 1 rebound, and sank 5 out of 7 free-throws.

Linden Jackson led Olds College with 27 points.

For the RDC Kings, Eric Bakker totaled 13 points, 1 assist and 5 rebounds. Dshawn Tyrell put up 12 points. Spencer Klassen and Daniel Powell contributed 10 each. The Kings had 23 points from their bench while the Broncos had 21.

The third place Red Deer College Kings (7-5) will compete against the fourth place Olds College Broncos (6-6) on Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 p.m. in the RDC Main Gym. The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Make Some Noise for mental health campaign will be recognized during the basketball games.
