Edobar and the Kings earn important road win in Lethbridge

The RDC Kings hit the court with energy Friday evening in Lethbridge, and while the offensive weapons were firing it was the Kings' defence that came up big in the fourth quarter.
The Kings outscored the Kodiaks 29-21 in the opening quarter. Omon Edobar led RDC with 9 points. The Kings added another 22 points in the second quarter and at the half they led the Kodiaks 51-45. Daniel Powell, a new addition at the break, chipped in with 6 points for the Kings in the second. Powell is a fourth-year forward from Phoenix, Arizona.
Lethbridge College outscored the RDC Kings 27-22 in the third quarter and headed into the final quarter only trailing the Kings 73-72. Darien Valdes accumulated 8 points and 2 rebounds in the third quarter for RDC.
The Kings scored 23 points in the fourth quarter and limited the Kodiaks to only 16 points with strong defence. The RDC Kings earned a 96-88 road victory. Omon Edobar and Darien Valdes had 5 points each for RDC in the final quarter. Edobar finished with 25 points, 1 steal, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Valdes and Dshawn Tyrell stacked up 20 points each for the Kings. Solon Ellis led the RDC Kings with 10 assists. Grady Taylor was the offensive leader for the Kodiaks and had 26 points, 2 assists and 3 rebounds.
As a team, the Kings impressively shot 50.9% from the field and outrebounded the Kodiaks 49-37.
Kings Basketball Head Coach Clayton Pottinger liked the road effort. "It was a good way to start the second semester. It is always a tough and intense game when we play in Lethbridge and these kind of games sharpen our abilities," said Pottinger. "We have been harping on the guys about the importance on having to defend and they did a better job."
In the rematch Saturday afternoon, Pottinger would like to see a few adjustments. "Late in the game, we made a few ill-advised shots and had a couple of turnovers so we would like to correct those areas," said Pottinger. "We also need to watch that we don't get into foul trouble so that we can still play with our normal lineup."
The RDC Kings (4-4) will hit the hardwood to face the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (4-4) on Saturday, January 13 at 3:00 p.m. on the road.
