Broncos over Basketball Kings in Olds

Friday in Olds, the Red Deer College Kings competed against the Broncos, and after the Kings trailed early they outscored the Broncos in the fourth quarter but couldn't fully climb back into the game. Olds College led 53-44 at the half and 83-70 after three quarters. The Kings scored 25 points in the final quarter but it wasn't quite enough as the Broncos won 107-95.

Olds College held a 4 point lead (29-25) after the first quarter. Eric Bakker led the Kings with 9 points. Abraham Murray pitched in with 10 points for the Broncos. Olds College added 24 points in the second quarter while RDC responded with 19. Dshawn Tyrell stacked up 6 points, 2 steals and 4 rebounds in the quarter for the Kings. Linden Jackson accumulated 8 points and 1 assist for the Broncos. At the half, Olds College held a 9 point margin (53-44).

In the third quarter, the Broncos outscored the Kings 30-26 and led 83-70. Omon Edobar led RDC with 14 points. Abraham Murray had 10 points for Olds College. The RDC Kings scored 25 points in the fourth quarter while Olds College responded with 24, and the Broncos picked up a 107-95 home win. Eric Bakker contributed 14 points and 1 rebound in the final quarter. Linden Jackson scored 11 points and added 3 rebounds for Olds College in the final quarter. Jackson finished with a game total of 33 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds for the Broncos. 

Clayton Pottinger, head coach of the RDC Kings, would like to see an improved defensive effort. "Olds College played with more intensity than we did tonight," said Pottinger. "It is tough to win when we give up over 100 points."

Pottinger liked the play from Eric Bakker. "Eric had a fantastic game tonight," said Pottinger. "He was very efficient and scored 34 points, had 7 rebounds and was 13-for-18 from the field." In his 38 minutes played, the first-year forward from Calgary was also 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. 

Over the break, the Kings will have a mix of workouts and rest. "We will have some practices but also give the guys a chance to recharge and visit their families. We identified some issues that we want to address when we return," said Pottinger. "After the break, we want to come back focused and there are still a lot of games left in the season."

The RDC Kings (3-4) will face the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (4-2) on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Lethbridge.
