Despite some recent injuries, the Red Deer College Kings Basketball team sat only 2 points out of 1st place in the ACAC Men's Basketball South Division prior to tonight's game. It is very competitive at the top of the division with the Rattlers, Trojans, Kodiaks and Kings within close proximity.

Friday in Saskatchewan, the RDC Kings faced the Briercrest College Clippers in the 1st game of a pair of weekend games. The Kings outscored the Clippers in 3-of-4 quarters and picked up an 81-73 road win.

The Kings outscored the Clippers 23-20 in the 1st quarter. Briercrest College tried to push back and scored 19 points in the 2nd quarter while RDC put up 12. At the half, the Clippers led 39-35.

RDC outscored the Clippers 18-10 in the 3rd quarter and 28-24 in the 4th quarter to pick up an 81-73 victory.

Kings Head Coach Clayton Pottinger felt that the offence wasn't firing on all cylinders.

"In our longest road trip of the year, our offence struggled," said Pottinger. "Spencer Klassen and Ian Tevis had good games and offensively we relied on them."

Tevis scored 26 points and Klassen contributed 17 points for the Kings.

"We were fairly good defensively tonight but lacked some energy," said Pottinger. "Tomorrow, we don't have to make any major adjustments but will change our routine a bit to mentally pique at game time."

Ian Tevis was chosen as the Kings player-of-the-game. Along with 26 points, the Kinesiology and Sport Studies student added 2 blocks, 3 steals and 4 rebounds.

With the victory, the Kings (10-6) improve to 20 points. The Kodiaks, Trojans and Rattlers share top spot in the ACAC Men's Basketball South Division with 22 points.

Saturday at 3:00 p.m., the Kings face the Clippers in the 2nd half of a 2 game set on the road.
