The Gutter RDP Athlete of the Week for February 26, 2024

This past weekend, Sam Goodey was willing to help the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Curling team in any way possible. At the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Curling Championships, the RDP Kings were down to three players and Goodey willingly stepped up to perform extra sweeping duties. Along with displaying talent on the ice, Goodey demonstrated a relentless work ethic that helped the Kings win ACAC gold.

The RDP Kings had a 1-2 record during round robin play, but elevated their game when it mattered the most. In the semi-finals, the Kings defeated the NAIT Ooks. Then in the finals, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings downed the Concordia University Thunder to earn gold.

Goodey and the Kings continued to improve throughout the season. The team had a 6-4 record at the ACAC Fall and Winter Regionals and finished the season as the top men’s curling team in the conference.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Curling team has qualified for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada College Championships from March 12-16 in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Congratulations!
